Background

Recent global events present unique opportunities to the NATO Science and Technology (S&T) community to learn about specific C4I challenges that need to be addressed. They also present an opportunity for rapid insertion of technology and scientific expertise to provide immediate assistance. Those who are currently being subjected to these challenges, whether as soldiers, scientists, or technologists, could share their needs, observations, and experiences. This invaluable insight could be about systems, capabilities, and/or techniques that are working effectively and those that are not. The insight could also identify new requirements, some of which could be expeditiously addressed by either expertise or technology from the side of NATO. Overall, the current environment provides an opportunity for NATO to help in a variety of capacities, exchange information amongst interested parties, as well as to learn how to shape current and future NATO research efforts to best address these new and emerging challenges.

Objectives

The Scientific objective of this activity are: - to evaluate integration and effectiveness of new technologies in current operations. - identify shortcomings in current solutions that require further research. - Identify how emerging technologies can be integrated faster and more effective. A related meta-objective is to make available the combined S&T knowledge and skills of the IST Panel members and their home and international networks to aid our close Allies in their defense.
